Hi,

Acquisition of copyright is automatic but registration will help during disputes. The copyright registry is in Delhi and the registration will have to be done there. The necessary application to be filed along with the work (six hard copies and three soft copies) and the prescribed fee to the Copyright registry and the registry after examination will issue a certificate of registration and the complete process may take a maximum of 3 to 5 months.

Hi,

First of all let me wish you good luck on your work and for successful publication.
Well to copyright your literary work(novel).

1) It must be original,
2) The work must have been completed.
3) It can be copyrighted before or after publication.
4) Once it is published, the Copyright comes into existence. Normally no formality/registration is required to be completed for acquiring copyright.
4) However, if you wish, Copyright Act facilities to you register the work.

Registration Process.
- Form IV - Application for Registration of Copyright, along with fees.(Rs400)
- You can file directly or through an Advocate empowered with the Power of Attorney.( Advocate fees)
- Statement of Particulars in Triplicate
- Statement of Further Particulars in triplicate (For Literary, Dramatic, Musical and Artistic works only)

Once it is filed, it takes 30 days to get response from the Copyright office. The rest would follow.
