Can I get a patent for an idea

What is procedure to patent by idea. Other person can't copy mt idea. Please guide me in this reference
There is no legal protection for a mere idea. The idea has to be worked upon to qualify for the registration of a copyright or patent, as the case be. Only then you can stop people from not copying your idea without your permission.
