Dear sir, you need to understand that if there is no binding contract then you are not liable to pay her back for her no coming to classes and you conducting them. But if you want not to increase the matter you can refund the money not half the amount but for which she has slipped classes to avoid any kind of future trouble

Apparently I do believe there is no chance for a legal action. From your wordings I do believe you were conducting a private tuition .. Even if a legal claim arises we can have a good claim on that to defeat it. I think your student is playing smarter than you.

Dear Client,
At first be cool.
Please understand that a student with some problems / draw backs usually attend ti additional classes.
Over and above the student had not atrended the full set of classes provided by you.
At first stick on to the following things.
1. You provide classes to a stipulated number of students in a batch nothing more nothing less.
2. At first you are assessing the capacity of the students, then only you can formulate the method if coaching, here in this case your student had left the place at the time of initial assessment itself.
3. Since you had earmarked the seat for this student you had suffered loss of income so you can claim this loss from your student if such a claim for fee arises.
4. So be cool and stick on to this facts stated above basically.
5. If your student move legally you too can raise a counter claim for the loss caused by your student and raise objections.
6. Please understand that for all jobs risk factors are there. So be cool and happy. Do not worry.
