If the property is given to your father by partition deed then its ancestral.
If the property is transferred to him by sale, gift, will or anything then it is self acquired.

For more information check the partition deed.

Ancestral property means property earned by a propositus of the family, which is yet be partitioned by their sons.
In the ancestral property son and daughters of the propositus have to birth right. Even grand sons and daughters have got share in the share of their father. In the instant case it is your ancestral property.

while partitioning of your grand father's property to his 7 sons & 3 daughters through Registered partition deed in 1957, your father was also entitled for a share in the grand father's property , so his share is again considered as an ancestral property only.

Hi,
from the details provided by you. It is understood that a partition is already effected by your grand father and your father has received his respective share. The share of your father would be considered as his self acquired as it is been effectively partitioned and he has received the share.
