Next time you get such call co operate with the police do not get agitated. Ask them for a time and place to meet in the Police Station premises. The police may be calling you to settle matters as such they cannot arrest you without issuing a notice under Section 41 A CrPc. not complying to such on the part of the police officer would tantamount to illegal detention.

So you need not worry and do meet the officer so calling as it may be a positive sign as no case may be registered against you owing which they haven't send a notice yet.

MY OPINION THAT if local police telephone you without any positive evidence / evidences against your wife's complain / complains, then you have so many legal options to move before as the local police authorities to unnecessary disturb you.

At present the Police do not arrest first. They call the Accused person against whom FIR has been lodged before their Police Station under sub-section (i) Section 41(A) Cr. P.C. and after talking with the Accused, they directed to take Bail from the concern Magistrate Court. So, don't worry, visit with them and take Bail from Ld. Magistrate Court.
