Mental trauma and financial loss how can I legally protected?

We were mutually agreed for marriage through arrange marriage. This agreement was between our families and now the girl's family is backing out just few hours before our planned engagement. This has caused a huge financial loss and emotional trauma to me and my family.
In such cases you have less options . you can talk to the girl’s family and ask for the compensation for the mental trauma and loss caused to you. You can file a civil suit for the recovery of money , if you have invested any money towards the preparation of the program.
