A lawyer should keep his client informed regarding the proceedings of the case. However, a lawyer is permitted to take decisions on behalf of a client as the client may not be aware of the procedural aspects, but the decisions must be in favour of the client. My advise is meet your Advocate and try to understand what decisions he has taken and if you want to counter any and don't jump to conclusions.

You have given power to advocate through vakalathnam by which whatever he does in court is done by you.

Onus of duty to enquire about case status also lies on you.

If your counsel acted against to your interest and colluded with opposition inspite of your instructions , then advocate not followed ethics, and you can sue your counsel under advocates Act for professional misconduct

But in your case if already crossed opposition and still your can recall the witness to cross him by filing application.

You ought to be smart enough to know the dates of hearing and appear in the court to have first hand knowledge of proceedings. If you do not evince any interest in your case or in your lawyer such situations would arise.
