Illegally cutting tree , what action can be taken?

Illegal cutting of 30 years old green Jamun tree, without any permission, and sold out for money by Sh. Ashwani Kumar c/o/ Sh Sampurna nand Tiwari, Viilage Bhim Pur, Dumolia, Tehsil and Police Station Salem Pur, Dist. Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. Police said that Jamun Cutting is not illegal. cutting of such a old, huge and green tree is very unfortunate. Bhim Pur is my native place and the said Tree was before my house. kindly take proper action against culprit or suggest me how to proceed in the matter
If the said tree was in the premises of your property then, you can file a complaint for theft under section 378 in the nearest police station. And it is not legal to cut any tree until and unless they have permission of the owner and the forest department along with the municipal corporation. You may file a complaint against them in the nearest tribunal as well as with forest department regarding this issue
