It is purely civil in nature. Police have no jurisdiction to entertain such complaints. You may approach the High Court seeking relief against police from entertaining such complaints against you. Let you friend file suit for recovery of money and establish the same.

Sir it is purely civil matter and police have no powers in such civil matters, further if he wants let him file a civil cases which requires that he should not only prove that you are liable to pay but he has to pay court fees too. So just take a lawyer if police calls you and the police will ask him to go to court.

Is you \r friend have any proof to prove that you have stayed with him like for ex: rent agreement etc. If he doesn't have means you just deny that you have stayed with him at any pointy of time. If police calls you for explanation then tell them that you have never stayed with him and just know him as a friend and visited his place few time. This you have to do only if your friend is bluffing you by receiving the money.
