Am I liable to clear dues if Dad Passed away with debt

05-Sep-2023 (In Civil Law)
Hi, My dad recently passed away. He has many many years old debts (1980-1990). I am 33 years old now(born 1983) , and we lost all our property etc many years ago (I was in 10th class then). I think the debts is still not fully settled. I did not inherit anything from my dad. I had left home when I was 18 years old (1st year college). I have few properties in India and abroad now, and I am worried it his debts will not result into mine. Someone from family said, since I am his legal heir, my name will be put on to his court cases and all my properties are in danger. Is this true? I

You need not worry. All his debts have become time barred now nobody can enforce recovery of those debts against your father's estate legally even if he had left some.
Your property is 100 % safe. Have peace of mind.

If you have not inherited anything from your father then you are not liable to pay his debt as only property which you have inherited from your father is liable for settlement of his debt Please also see what the debt (money) was used for creditors can attach your name to the suit as you are a legal heir but i do not think that you or your self acquired property will be liable for it. please contact your local lawyer for further advice
