is it compulsory to take the custody of the child?

i do not want the custody of my child and my wife also does not want to keep the child. we want to get separated. who will have the custody of the child in this case?
If you agree to file Mutaul consent divorce then custody of child can be mutually decided and awarded according to mutual terms of settlement.
However in case of contested custody, the court after examining the facts, awards custody determing the parmount welfare interst of child.
