Custody of 8 months old daughter

My Wife has taken my 8 months daughter with her and is staying in her parents home. We are not divorced and no divorce case is going on between us. My Wife's parents family have a track record of frequent quarrelling within their family members.They are short tempered people, they abuse each other, sometimes they physically hurt each other violently and get hospitalized. Sometimes person who is not involved in the quarrel will become victim of the violent activities. In such situation I am concerned about safety and security of my child. How can law help me get custody of my 8 months daughter?
