Maximum 3 years imprisonment and fine can be upto double the amount....although you'll get some time during the course of the trial....and the penalty and conviction i have told is maximum for this offence...

First you have to apply for the bail as this section is of criminal nature but you can get the bail very easily as the offence is bailable. Compensation is double the amount of cheque and maximum two years punishment.

in cheque bouncing cases or Ni 138 act cases , two years of maximum punishment or double amount on which the party filed the complaint in the court of law as fine or both. and if the fine will not submitted in the court then the punishment may extend.
