how to handle Cheque bouncing of a security blank cheque

Dear sir/Madam My wife has issued blank cheques to one of her friends for security of taking chit.But there was a delay in paying the monthly chit amounts.But some how she paid the chit amount fully. But her friend is asking for interest for the delayed payments & is not giving back the security cheques.We are not ready to pay the interest amount.So she is threatening of filing a cheque bounce case on my wife.How to get rid of this without any problems.
You ought to have been cautious while issuing blank cheques. The only option left for you now is to issue stop payment order against these cheques and make written request (under registered post acknowledgement due) for return of cheques mentioning that they were issued for security purposes and that purposes are served. If cheques are not returned, immediately lodge a police complaint.

Normally if there is a delay in the payment penalty is charged, however she being a friend she can consider waiving it. However, u cannot ask as a demand, never delay any payments / instalments especially to Bank/ chit companies. Try to avoid a confrontation situation, if she files a cheque dishonour case u have the risk of going to courts every hearing.
