Cheque issued as security for a contract work but now threatening case

sir, I'm issue three cheque to my client/friend as security of all amount for an event purpose. but after the event organized my client/ friend suffer heavy loses and he refused to return my cheque. and after 8 months he bounced my one cheque and blackmail for court case for the amount stated in cheque. what will i do please help me gentlemen. please.
One of the probable defense is that you may report to the police that your friend / Client has stolen your cheque. Get the receipt of your complaint or file a private complaint under section 420 & 379 of IPC
