Cheque given by friend dishonored due to stop payment, what to do

I have taken cheque from my friend for helping in his criminal case financially around 4 years back but after that he left the place and now only giving false assurance that he will pay me back but when I deposit his cheque it got bounced due to stop payment . I have his family phone number what should I do

you can file complaint against him under section 138 of N.I. Act.. First you will have to send notice to the accused through advocate with in one month of Cheque bounce. if he fails to deposit money with in 15 days of notice then you can file complaint in court.

In that event you should contact Lawyer to issue notice within 30 days from the knowledge of bounce to drawers...
It is mandatory notice before file complaint U/s 138 of N. I. Act...

I would advise you to send him a legal notice for recovery of dues. If he still doesn't return the amount due then you will have to initiate legal proceedings under Section 138 of Negotiable Instruments Act.

Taking into consideration the above mentioned facts and the query therein.

In a first since there is a cheque and it is bounced. One can initiate legal action against the accused under the Negotiable Instrument Act. By issuing a legal notice against the accused.
