What are the contents of the agreement you both executed on the stamp paper? If he has stated in the agreement that he will pay you the cheque amount towards the discharge of his liability towards you, you can use the agreement as an evidence in court when he defaults on the payment. Get the agreement notarized and keep it with yourself. You can use the notarized agreement to file a money recovery suit in the jurisdictional civil court against him to recover the principal amount along with compensation. All the best!
