Client refusing to pay for work done online. What to do?

06-Mar-2023 (In Arbitration Law)
I have worked for a client who sells software online. I worked to promote his website via different means. We did not have any official contract but in all the chats, the client mentioned he was happy with my work and that he will pay me whenever I want. There are a lot of chats that prove that I worked properly for the client and he was satisfied with my work. Since the last 2 months, he has been delaying payment and yesterday, he blocked me from calling him. He also blocked me on WhatsApp. I have warned him numerous times that I will take legal action yet he his not responding. I am sick of asking for money and want a way out. The amount involved is not huge (INR 20000) but it is a great amount for me as I am a student. What can I do in this situation?

If there is no written agreement with arbitration clause then you cannot initiate the arbitration proceedings. First of all, you raise the bill to the work and send the same to the party. After receiving the same, if he failed to pay the b8ll amount then file recovery of money suit before the civil court.

First you should send a 15 days clear notice regards the dispute between you and your client with registered post . If there is no reply then you should approach the arbitrator regards the issue. They will put your matter in mediation.

I think, skip and get on to next thing. Since the amount if very small.
If at all, they have an office and you can reach them, go and complaint with the nearest police station, to recover money. You may spend few thousands..but worth a try.
